For years and years the lords of Esaies were sick and weak, mentally ill or incompetant and frivolous, and for years and years, many seemed only to be able to produce female heirs or males who died far too young due to illnesses or tragic accidents. Yet once upon a time the lords of House Esaies were called the storm lords, when there was meaning behind the title, alongside the smaller Houses of Lysith, Mayes and Horand.
The songs say that ever since the day Lord Coryndal scorned the gods by choosing to worship his sea spirits, they forsake these storm lords and placed a curse on them, and on their descendants. No longer would the House of Esaies ever stand as proud as it had before, as each generation gradually became worse than the previous, but still it would remain by the coast for all of eternity, whipped at by the waves and by the wind, with no mercy from Lord Coryndal's sea spirits that may very well have never existed.
These songs that were sung were eventually banned from the region by the storm lords, who still called themselves by that name-- claiming as so as long as the blood ran through their veins, they were the storm lords, and no curse or god could crush their pride nor this claim. In these songs, Esaies was called Esaies-by-the-shore. The name stuck, even when the bards stopped singing the song, and the tale of Lord Coryndal was almost forgotten.
Over a hundred years has passed since then, and only twenty four years ago, a set of triplets were born to Lord Dylan -- his father had seven children but he was the only one who lived to sire heirs-- and Lady Esen of the line of Lysith. The first born was a boy and named Tempest, followed by a girl, called Gale and another boy, with the softest cry and given the gentlest name-- Rain.
Tempest was heir, and raised for perfection. He grew into a strong, healthy child, graceful and elegant, the "curse" that supposedly ran in their blood not appearing to affect him. But he had a speaking problem in the form of a horrible stutter and a tendancy to stumble over his words and get stuck for long periods of time over simple phrases-- yet somehow he only ever had this problem with the common tongue. Lord Dylan had him speak in Falinese or not speak at all, to avoid embarrassment in front of people who hardly even cared.
He was taught to use the sword, and he proved to be an excellent student, eager to learn and quick to pick up on things. However, all he really wanted to do with his natural grace and co-ordination was to dance, often dancing with his sister or with maids and servants or simply by himself, behind closed doors. His father found out and demanded that he stop and remember who he was. Who ever heard of a storm lord who preferred dance to a blade?
Years passed, Tempest lost his stutter but never stopped dancing in an act of quiet defiance that no one ever knew about and it lost its meaning. His relationship with his sister grew tense, then terse, eventually quite hostile, and neither seem to mind very much. He remains quite close to his brother, however, and sometimes likes to think and occasionally "accidentally" says that he's part of a pair of twins, and not a set of triplets, out of his thinly veiled contempt towards Gale.
He had only just returned from a trip to the capital with his father, when three nights later, Lord Dylan appeared to have completely vanished without a trace nor any explanation as to how this could have happened. His mother claimed to have seen him only an hour before it happened, and none of the guards had seen anyone leave.
After it was clear that his father would not be returning, as his heir, Tempest became lord and still doesn't know what to do without someone to tell him. |

Tempest spent many years speaking scarcely and he hasn't quite grown out of it, talking very little and only when giving orders or being spoken to. He maintains a calm, cool demeanour, and hides much of his emotion, which is really the best he can do, as he's done a poor job of trying to kill it. He tries to be polite when he does have to speak, though, and sometimes fails at that as well, because as a storm lord of Esaies, he's fiercely prideful and holding his tongue in circumstances where he should has proven rather difficult.
He likes to pretend that absolutely nothing is wrong with anything, because he's very bad at fixing things, and without his father around telling him what he should do, he feels extremely lost and spends an extraordinary amount of time talking to his mother for guidance though they had never been very close. Tempest doesn't think he's cut out to be a lord at all, and though thus far he's doing reasonably well, he still wants someone to tell him what to do, because it feels so much safer that way. Right now, he's just waiting for a disaster.
He has a bit of a temper, and is quite easily irritated by people around him. As a result he tries not to talk to them long enough for him to get irritated. Tempest also tends to find his amusement in the suffering of people he doesn't particularly care for, and isn't entirely without a sense of humour-- as borderline sadistic as it is. |

Tempest is tall, well built and reasonably handsome, though he seems to have a perpetually annoyed look about him. His features have often been described as slightly feminine but he will hear nothing of it. His hair is dark, (well kept) and very long, usually kept up in a high ponytail, and his eyes are a dark gray, much like his father's. Tempest dresses finely, as a lord should, though nothing extravagant or memorable, and mostly in dark blues or black.
He has a fairly deep voice, and he usually speaks softly. When he's angry he tends towards snarling instead of shouting, and when he laughs it's more of a rasping gasp.
